OTTAWA — Legendary sports medicine physician Dr. Rudy Gittens, known in Ottawa for his work with the Ottawa Rough Riders and the Ottawa 67s, has died at the age of 80.

Gittens served as team doctor for the Rough Riders for more than 20 years before taking the same role with Canada’s national soccer teams in 1984. The Canadian Soccer Association reported Gittens’s death Thursday night.
